Sleepy Hollow can be a little sleepy on a Sunday morning after they have had Halloween parties all weekend - but that didn't matter to me. I was awake and ready to visit with the Headless Horseman and his steadfast horse companion. We stopped for coffee though, as mom needed a little java at a cute place called the 'Coffee Lab' (as in labrador, not chemicals). As the name implied, dogs were very welcome.
Then we were ready to meet the horseman. We had to traverse a hill and several tombstones before catching sight of the duo. At first, I was a little hesitant to approach. I watched as others went up and the horseman stood stoically upon his steed while everyone snapped pictures. It seemed a little strange and I was about to turn around and check out some grave stones when I felt it.
For some reason, there was this special energy that was palpable, eminating from the horse. At first I thought it was probably something to do with the fact, the guy has to walk around with a headless human on his back - but no, this was something else. There was an attraction.
I proceeded slowly, and then it was my turn. I got Aunt Mimi to lift me up and 'brrrring' just like that, we touched noses. We were instantly bonded. I liked this guy. There was a gentleness and beauty about him. I wanted to stay and hang with my new pal but people were waiting for more pics and there was this strange guy in a super hero muscle outfit hanging around so I thought it best to go.
We ran in leaves, explored the city of Sleepy Hollow, ate dinner at a great burger joint and stopped at Piermont for a walk by the river before heading home. The day was full, the landscape, the grass, the leaves, the hills, the water, the people - all new and fascinating - I love days like this!
